LibreOffice is a Office suite application that is Similar to Microsot Office providing word processing, spreadsheets, desktop publishing, and presentation creation.

LibreOffice is used in Linux computer systems that aren't compatible with Office (if a stand alone application is needed).

This application is available for Apple and Microsoft Windows devices.

Some have been looking for alternatives due to the subscription costs (associated with Microsoft) and options to eliminate the annoying AI suggestions.

Microsoft Office files are compatible with LibreOffice (with the exception of VBA macros).

Macro and LibreOffice automation is handled through Python (since VBA scripting (known as Visual Basic) is only supported on Windows based computers).

As licensing costs have increased, with Micorsoft, this option is getting more attention.

Like Office 365, LibreOffice does work as internet application using the Nextcloud Server systems (if available).

The CODE app will work with mobile devices (available on Apple and Google Play Stores).  It is a lighweight office application viewer and editor that may have discrepancies with the scaling of font size and other embedded objects (in the file) while in use.

The LibreOffice desktop allication works with Linux, Apple, and Linux systems.  The desktop application will work on Chromebooks (if Linux development features are enabled).

LibreOffice is an open source application and is funded by donations.

LibreOffice is available in the Microsoft Store.

Information and download instructions is available on the website:

https://www.libreoffice.org/

Office 365 will operate on any web browser regardless of the operating system that is used.

LibreOffice doesn't have a replacement for One Note.

Some of the other Office applications (such as Vizio and Project) have found replacements in Nextcloud using Deck (for project management) and Chart (for flowchart design) when in use with Nextcloud.

These applications are in use to help with the development of this web application since 2022.

Access applications

While Access has been a part of IT development in the past, it is no longer supported as it's applications are based on Visual Basic and many of the current database tables, in use, are inadequate for Access use.

While Microsoft hasn't officially phased it out, it is expected to happen in the near future as VBA scripting development has been discontinued.

While Access devlopment was a part of the partner company, Wilfile, that line of development was phased out in 2016 and changed to support Oracle database applications.
